Head of Upstate New York children’s program faces DWI charges

There can be a negative impact for a conviction for driving while intoxicated regardless of who is confronted with the allegations. This is magnified when the accused is a person who has a prominent job with a public agency and is entrusted with the interests of children in New York State. For those whose entire livelihood can be damaged by a DWI conviction and other charges, it is even more important to have a strong legal defense against the charges to seek a positive outcome.

A 56-year-old woman was arrested on several charges related to DWI after an accident. The incident occurred in the evening when the woman’s vehicle, a 2014 Toyota Sienna, crashed into a concrete divider and then overturned. It was close to railroad tracks in the area. After the crash, the woman got out of the vehicle and tried to flee.

Law enforcement used K9s to locate her less than an hour later. She was unhurt. Upon investigation, police stated her blood-alcohol content registered beyond 0.08 percent – the legal limit in the state. However, it was less than 0.18 percent. The woman works for the Office of Family and Child Services and is a director. Charges for DWI, fleeing the scene, and texting and driving were filed against her.

DWI charges can happen to anyone. People who have never even crossed the street against the traffic light, loitered or littered can find themselves arrested and suddenly dealing with the prospect of the various penalties that accompany these allegations. That can include jail, fines, a driver license suspension, and more.

Often, that is not the end of the potential problems they will face as it could hinder them in their professional employment and endeavors and follow them around for a significant period. Ignoring the need for a legal defense is a mistake that many make. There are often strategies that can yield a beneficial result with help from a qualified attorney. The woman in this case and anyone facing similar charges should ensure they are protected by discussing the case with a law firm experienced in combating DWI charges.
