Factors To Keep In Mind When Selecting A DWI Attorney

There are several key decisions that you will make after being pulled over for DWI. The first will be whether you will submit to a Breathalyzer or blood test to measure your blood alcohol content (BAC) level. But, the most important decision you will make, the one that will have the greatest impact on the outcome of your case, is which DWI lawyer you choose to represent you.

How do you choose a DWI attorney? What makes the difference from one to another? I believe that there are some key factors that need to be weighed when you are considering which attorney to trust your defense to. These factors include:

  • Experience — How long has that attorney been defending cases like yours?
  • Record of success — Has the attorney been able to help his or her clients?
  • Familiarity with the courts your case will be heard in — Understanding how local prosecutors and judges approach a type of case can be an invaluable level of insight.

The last factor is more subjective: Do you feel comfortable working with the attorney? You will need to make some critical decisions as part of your defense. You need to feel comfortable with and confident in the advice and representation he or she is providing you with.
