Long Island woman faces felony DUI after accident

When New York drivers are pulled over, they often expect officers to question them about the details of stop. When an accident occurs, authorities seek to understand the cause and assign fault. That's why drivers may go through a series of questions and may even be subjected to some tests. When a driver is suspected of being under the influence, a filed sobriety test and blood alcohol test are often administered. The results could cause the driver to face a DUI and serious penalties.

A young Long Island woman was recently charged with a DUI following a drunk driving accident. Because of a law passed in 2009, the 30-year-old woman faces a felony for driving under the influence with a child in the vehicle. According to reports, the woman crashed into a telephone pole and fled the scene, leaving her three children in the vehicle. The woman also faces three counts of child endangerment as well as fleeing the scene of an accident.

The accident occurred about 6 p.m. and officers in Huntington Station located both the driver and her three children about 10 minutes after the collision occurred. The woman was placed under arrest while her three children were turned over to a family member and Child Protective Services were notified.

When a driver faces serious drunk driving charges, they should try to build a strong defense strategy. This might require further investigation and questioning the legality of the arrest and any tests conducted at the scene of the accident or afterwards. Depending on the findings, it could result in evidence being suppressed. Furthermore, some charges could be dropped or reduced.

Any driver suspected of a DUI is entitled to a defense. A solid defense could reduce the consequences of the allegations or a conviction. The charges could lead to a damaged reputation and a strong defense could lower the personal and professional damages. Those unsure of their legal options should seek guidance. This could help them devise a defense while also protecting their rights and interests.
