As a previous post in this blog discussed, charges related to theft could result in serious penalties. If a criminal charge is raised to an armed robbery charge because a deadly weapon was used in the commission of the suspected crime, the accused could face harsh consequences.

According to recent reports, five suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery and assault of a teenage boy. Preliminary reports claim that this crime occurred at a train station in Brooklyn. Police believe that 10 suspects, which included nine men and one woman, chased the 16-year-old victim along the northbound platform of the F train station located at West 8th Street. The suspects supposedly kicked and punched the victim before attempting to remove his headphones.

The victim apparently got away from the group but was later assaulted by them again. During this second assault, police claim that the group managed to take the victim’s cell phone before fleeing the scene.

The five suspects arrested are between the ages of 16 and 19, and all are facing several criminal charges, including robbery. Investigation of this crime is still ongoing and it is not clear if any weapons were used in these crimes.

In crimes that include multiple defendants, it is important to understand that each defendant is entitled to a criminal defense. Each defendant has defense options available to them. Initiating a defense not only protects the accused’s rights but could also help them reduce or dismiss the charges against them.
