Following an automobile accident, authorities seek to understand the cause of the crash and assign fault. Their investigation could result in a driver being accused of driving while intoxicated. A DWI charge could mean serious penalties, which could affect the personal and professional life of the accused. This is why it is crucial that anyone accused of driving while intoxicated understand the charges against them and develop a defense strategy.

Following a car crash, a Long Island man was arrested for suspected drunk driving. According to reports, the drunk driving accident occurred around 4 a.m. when and Audi traveling northbound struck a Mercedes that was traveling westbound. When authorities arrived at the scene of the crash, the driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead.

Following initial investigation, the driver of the Audi was charged with drunk driving. It is not clear whether a field sobriety test or blood alcohol test was conducted.

When a driver faces a drunk driving charge following a fatal crash, they could endure harsh penalties such as fines, license revocation and even jail time. Those facing serious charges should understand their defense options. This could mean conducting further investigations that will help them challenge the constitutionality of their arrest or evidence gathering procedures. This could help reduce the penalties against the accused, or even clear them of all charges.

Facing a serious charge such as a drunk driving charge could affect the life of the driver drastically. It is important that they establish a defense strategy to protect their rights and interests. This could also reduce the impact that this event has on their personal and professional life.
