Pickup truck driver faces DWI charges after crashing into pole

On Behalf of | Aug 9, 2018 | Drunk Driving |

As drivers in Hudson Valley and throughout Upstate New York are keenly aware, law enforcement is on a constant watch to seek out and stop drivers who are thought to be under the influence. In many cases, there is a traffic stop after a driver has exhibited a sign that he or she might be intoxicated. However, when there is a crash, law enforcement will investigate to determine if drunk driving charges are in order. Other allegations can ensue as part of the case. In every situation, drivers should make certain that they are protected by an attorney who is experienced in drunk driving cases.

A driver who crashed his pickup truck into a telephone pole was arrested for drunk driving. The accident occurred in the early morning hours after 2 a.m. Law enforcement was called when a 2016 Ford F-150 was reported to have hit the pole. During their investigation, they found a 45-year-old male driver who had tried to depart from the site of the crash. The man hit the pole after losing control of the vehicle when he had trouble negotiating a turn. The driver was unhurt. His blood-alcohol content was found to be three times the legal amount. He faces multiple charges related to the incident including DWI, aggravated DWI, and driving without a license.

When there are allegations of legal violations related to driving under the influence, the charges can accrue and wind up stacking one on top of the other for a litany of serious penalties. When there is a crash and the driver is found to be substantially over the legal limit, a conviction can lead to jail, fines and more. When the driver did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of the incident, the loss of driving privileges can be extended. Any DWI charge is serious, but there are viable defenses that can be used. Testing procedures must be adhered to and the validity of the test can be called into question. Other factors could be useful in formulating a defense to reduce the charges or even get an acquittal.

A driver is believed to have been under the influence when he hit a telephone pole with his pickup truck. After law enforcement arrived on the scene, they placed the man under arrest on several charges related to the crash. While the allegations sound problematic, the man must still mount a strong defense to combat the charges. A law firm that specializes in helping those who have been charged with DWI can help.
