New York teen charged with underage DWI and more after crash

Teen drivers are a common sight in the Hudson Valley. Since they are inexperienced and just starting out on the road, there is a chance they will make blatant mistakes a driver with a long history of driving would not make. That can make it difficult for them to get and maintain their driver's license, avoid citations and they might even be arrested for various charges related to legal violations. Much can be said about "protecting your future", but teen drivers should be especially cognizant of that. This is even more important after there have been allegations of multiple offenses while driving.

A teen is facing numerous charges related to an incident in which his vehicle flipped over, ending up on its roof. The crash happened in the early morning hours at about 3:30 a.m. Law enforcement and first responders were called to investigate a 2007 Chrysler that had rolled over. When they arrived, they found an 18-year-old who was believed to have been under the influence. He was arrested and faces drunk driving charges, driving without a license, speeding and other allegations. He was uninjured.

For drivers under the age of 21, the level at which they can be charged with DWI is lower than it is for people of legal drinking age. They simply must reach 0.02 percent when their blood-alcohol concentration is tested. This, combined with other charges, can make it difficult for the teen to get and retain driving privileges and get reasonably priced insurance. It can also have a negative impact on other areas of life. Depending on the charges, there can even be jail time as part of the penalties after a conviction. For teen drivers, it is imperative to understand how to lodge a defense against DWI and other road infractions.

A teen who flipped his vehicle and luckily was unhurt was arrested on multiple offenses. Since he did not have a license, was charged with underage DWI and speeding among other allegations, it is critical for him to have a strong legal defense. Perhaps there can be a plea bargain or strategies to take part in a treatment program can be used in lieu of harsher penalties. A law firm that has extensive experience with helping underage drivers accused of DWI should be called immediately to explore the alternatives and prepare a defense.
