New York man charged for driving with a suspended license

Driving without a valid license could carry serious penalties for the driver. Depending on the reason for the traffic stop, whether the license was suspended or revoked and if the driver is a repeat offender, this could result in a misdemeanor charge. It is important that the driver understand everything surrounding the traffic stop and the potential charges. This could help in the defense process.

New York authorities recently stopped a driver for two traffic violations in Yorktown. According to preliminary reports, police stopped the 57-year-old male driver for the failure to use a turn signal and failure to yield to the right of way. Officers observed these alleged traffic offenses at around 7:10 a.m. and pulled the driver over.

During the traffic stop, officers reportedly discovered that the man was driving with a suspended license. The male driver was arrested and was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, which is a misdemeanor in New York. Following the arrest, the driver was processed and later released.

While a traffic offense may not seem like a severe criminal case, some of these cases can carry penalties that could greatly impact the life of the driver. For driving charges related to driving with a suspended license, the driver could be convicted of a misdemeanor and face consequences amounting to significant fines and even jail time. Arrestees facing such a charge should develop a defense strategy in an attempt to help reduce or dismiss the charges.

Further investigation could help defendants determine whether the evidence against them is admissible. Suppressing evidence could help the defendant get the charges dropped.
