Boy brings cocaine to preschool; New York dad faces charges

On Behalf of | Mar 19, 2015 | Drug Charges |

The impact of a criminal charge can be grave. They not only affect the reputation of the accused, but they could also greatly impact their personal and professional life. Loved ones could be harmed in the process, and a defendant’s life could be damaged regardless if they are convicted. This is why it is crucial they take immediate action to construct a defense strategy in an effort to avoid some of the harshest consequences.

One New York man may need to do this, as he was arrested for drug charges after his four-year-old son allegedly brought a bag of cocaine to his classroom. Repots claim that 12 grams of cocaine fell out of the boy’s hat, leading to a search warrant being issued regarding the boy’s father.

In the search of the 25-year-old man’s home, police allegedly found four pounds of marijuana, 12 long guns, two automatic rifles, five handguns, a stun gun, and more than $10,000 in cash. Following the search, the man was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. It is expected that the accused will also face additional charges.

In these matters, defendants should understand their rights and options. It these types of cases, it is important that the search warrant was properly issued and the law was complied with when that warrant was executed. In addition, police officers are required to recover evidence in a certain manner. Failure to do so could make evidence inadmissible.

This is why it is important that defendants consider all the details of the crime of which they are accused and the facts being used against them. This could help them develop their defense and perhaps reduce the consequences they could endure. Those unsure of the next steps to take should seek legal guidance. This will ensure they are knowledgeable about their situation and possible defense methods.
