Man stopped on New York interstate faces aggravated DWI

On Behalf of | Feb 6, 2015 | Drunk Driving |

Drivers in New York are pulled over for various reasons. One of these reasons is intoxication. If an officer believes that a motorist is driving under the influence, they will not only pull him or her over but will likely also conduct some tests to determine if he or she is intoxicated. This usually means field sobriety tests will be conducted as well as a breathalyzer test. Depending on the results of these tests, a driver might be arrested and charged with a DWI. When this happens, it is imperative that the suspected drunk driver should understand that he or she has defense options that may be able to help him or her get the charges reduced or dismissed.

One man may need to do just that. New York State Police recently arrested a Meriden man for suspected drunk driving. According to reports, police approached the vehicle of the 41-year-old man when it was stopped in the right lane of interstate 84. According to police, they believed that the man in the driver’s seat was intoxicated, leading them to conduct a chemical test. Supposedly, this test showed that the driver had a 0.22 percent blood alcohol content. This resulted in the driver being charged with an aggravated DWI.

When a driver faces a DWI charge, it could carry serious penalties and consequences, including jail, fines, and license suspension. An aggravated DWI could result in even harsher penalties and, depending on the driver’s record, might impact their defense options. Regardless of the situation, drivers should understand they have defense options and seek to determine which of these legal avenues is best for them

Devising defense strategies could be challenging for defendants to initiate and navigate. Therefore, it might be in an accused individual’s best interests to speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney who may be able to guide them in the right direction.
