Traffic stop for speeding grows to something more for assemblyman

Speeding is one of those crimes that anyone who drives can find themselves facing. As any driver knows, it is all too easy as one drives down the road to let the speed creep up to a point where it is above the posted limit. Sometimes it is much higher that the driver realizes. The recent traffic stop of an assembly man from Hudson Valley illustrates how anyone who is driving can find themselves being pulled over.

The resident of Mohegan Lake was pulled over for allegedly driving 15 mph over the posted speed limit of 65 mph as he travelled on a highway. As a result of speeding the man was given a ticket.

Police officers who pulled the 59-year-old man over were faced with more than they likely expected when during the stop they smelled marijuana. Upon further inspection, troopers uncovered a small amount of the illegal substance. In addition to the speeding ticket, the man will need to deal with charges stemming from that discovery as well.

Dealing with the ramification of a speeding ticket can be time consuming and expensive, both things that many do not have much to spare. In addition, establishing a record of speeding can lead to more serious consequences should the infraction be repeated at a later date. For these reasons many find it helpful to hire a lawyer to try to minimize the consequences. When a traffic stop for speeding leads to the discovery of another illegal activity, as was the case with the assemblyman, it is even more important to do what is necessary to provide a solid defense.
